Coach Storm's
2007-2008 Pre-Season
Cream of the Crop Club

First Team
Position Name High School Class College Choice
Guard Ashley Rivera Lowell Senior Undecided
Guard Meghan Thomann Andover Senior Bentley
Forward Kelly Meredith Franklin Senior Assumption
Forward Taryn Johnson Brockton Senior Fairfield
Center  Caroline Stewart Masconomet Senior Boston Univ.

My highlight of Ashley Rivera from last year is her faking a crossover dribble against Andover with that juke giving her the half step she needed to beat Maggie Cosgrove, maybe the best defender in the state, off the dribble for the winning layup in a key regular season MVC clash at Lowell High.  She was the MVP and leading scorer in the tough MVC…has some D1 interest from Quinnipiac and was both a Herald and Globe All-Scholastic last year.  Girl can play!....Meghan Thomann can score (15 PPG) and has NBA 3 point range.  Some make the mistake of thinking that’s the only great part of her game.  WRONG…this kid can defend, can handle, throws excellent, crisp chest passes, rarely if ever forces a shot, and is almost automatic at the free throw line.  She’ll be a key cog for the Bentley Falcons in the future…Kelly Meredith is close to 6’ and strong enough to rebound with anyone…handles well enough to play the point…can shoot it (20 PPG and 1,000 point scorer already) and knock down the “3” like it’s her job…is a terrific leader on the court and throws the best 2 hand overhead pass (probably from her soccer days) I’ve seen in the girls game in years.  This Herald All-Scholastic had some D1 interest for college but chose D2 Assumption College….they got a steal with Kelly...Brockton’s 5’11” Taryn Johnson is just a stud athlete who was born to play the Boxer’s up-tempo style of play.  This two-time Herald All-Scholastic can run, jump, hit the 15 footer, and has these long arms that allow her to reach rebounds normal players can only dream about.  She averaged a double-double last year with 15 PPG and 10 boards…should break the 1,000 point barrier early this winter.  Fairfield is getting a quality talent now and one who has a huge upside… Caroline Stewart is a returning Herald All-Scholastic and this versatile 6 footer may be the most complete talent in the North with her terrific all-around skills…girl can board, handle, play the “D” and even step back behind the arc when called upon. Masco’s loss will be a huge gain for BU.

Second Team
Position Name High School Class College Choice
Guard Jill Greenberg Westwood Senior Undecided
Guard Morgan Kendrew Barnstable Senior Undecided
Guard Alexandra Fiola Durfee Senior Southern Ct.
Forward Mary Nwachukwa Dighton-Rehoboth Junior Only a Junior
Center  Katie Zenevich Central Catholic Sophomore Only a Soph

Jill Greenberg was a well deserved Tri-Valley MVP and Globe All-Scholastic last year and could match those honors and then some this winter.  This 5’10” dynamo does it all as a point guard including being a terrific leader on the court…off the court…and in the classroom…girl loves the game and boy does it show…When you play way down the Cape it sometimes is difficult to get the ‘pub that great players deserve but we’ll try and rectify this somewhat this year as there is some serious talent on that Barnstable club.  Morgan Kendrew can flat out shoot the rock (over 19 PPG) especially from behind the arc and the fact she’s already a 1,000 point scorer proves that point.  The girl can also slash to the hoop and at 5’10” can help out on the boards as well.  Getting looks from all levels of colleges but is undecided at this point…some school is going to get a gem when she makes her final decision…Southern Connecticut won the 2007 D2 National Championship by making smart recruiting decisions and they have done it again.  Alex Fiola had some good D1 interest and it appears this sharp shooting southpaw (17 PPG and will get her 1,000th early this year) will be a steal for the NE 10 power.  Look for Fiola and her Durfee club to make some serious noise in D1 South this year as well…With D1 Top 25 teams like Maryland, BC, and Notre Dame knocking on your door already you know this kid can play.  Junior Mary Nwachukwa is a slender 6’2” but her game is huge and smooth as silk.  This kid has an incredible future…Though only a soph, 6’2” Katie Zenevitch will at some point be universally referred to as “the best player in Mass”…it’s not a question of “may some day” but only a question of “when.”  She was a Herald All-Scholastic as a frosh and can do it all on the court…she blocks shots, bangs the boards, hits 3’s, sees the floor and can handle.  Her future’s so bright, she’s gotta’ wear shades!

Third Team
Position Name High School Class College Choice
Guard Marissa Mello Somerset Senior BC
Guard Cori O’Kane Spellman Senior Stonehill
Guard Christine Duffy Archbishop Williams Senior Undecided
Forward Emily Trapp Whitman-Hanson Junior Only a Junior
Forward  Renee LeBlanc Waltham Senior Undecided

Marissa Mello is “old school” playing whatever sport is in season…she not only plays them but may be the best all-around female athlete in the state as she is fabulous in soccer, bball, and softball.  Note that the hoops are listed 2nd and it seems funny to put a future BC soccer player this high but boy does she deserve it.  She can wheel and deal, hit the open person and score having tickled the twine to the tune of close to 20 PPG last year….Cori O’Kane has been a fabulous floor leader for Spellman’s great run the last few years and has been overlooked by me for all that time.  Good thing that Stonehill has better brain power than I do as they recognized the great value a point guard who is close to 6’ can provide.  Cori does everything that Coach Pat Lamb demands (and that’s a ton) each and every night be it on the defensive end, making a key pass or knocking down a clutch 3 pointer…and the best thing about her is she truly knows what it takes to win and that is an often overlooked talent!...The "Archie’s" were D3 State Champs last year and that doesn’t happen without a terrific point guard like Herald All-Scholastic Christine Duffy!  Duff’ flies down the court and makes that one-hand pass off the dribble on the break like nobody else.  She can nail the 3 ball and flat out loves to play the game.  Some college is going to love the day that she shows up on their campus…Emily Trapp is one of the more athletic 6’1”kids you’ll see anywhere.  All she did as a sophomore last year was set single season school records with 506 points and 293 rebounds…those are not misprints just amazing numbers and still 2 more years to terrorize high school opponents.  Think there are just a few college coaches chasing her???  LOL…what a future…Waltham has lacked some size recently so Renee LeBlanc at 6’ has been forced to sacrifice her game to help the team inside.  To me she’s a natural shooting guard/small forward as she can nail the 3 ball along with playing tough inside.  Was double and triple teamed last year and was still a Top 10 scorer in EMass averaging over 20 a game…

Fourth Team
Position Name High School Class College Choice
Guard Jill Lyon Barnstable Senior Undecided
Guard Erin Baldwin Fairhaven Senior Undecided
Forward Tasia Kearse Lincoln-Sudbury Senior Bentley
Forward Courtney Finn Winthrop Junior Only a Junior
Center  Jackie Bohenek Rockland Senior Undecided

Jill Lyon is just an all-around force on a basketball court for Barnstable High.  She can score (16 PPG) while handling the ball flawlessly on every possession (7 APG).  The best part of this superb floor general’s game may be on the defensive end as her picture could be on a post office bulletin board for grand theft with all the steals she’s made in her career.  Herald All-Scholastic Erin Baldwin has become a legend at Fairhaven High by breaking the single game scoring record (38 points) while also becoming the Blue Devil’s all-time leading scorer with 1,084 points.  This star has another year to add to that total so look out South as Fairhaven will be a D3 force again this winter.  Tasia Kearse got spotted early by Bentley and the Falcons never stopped chasing this talented senior.  “TK” is a 6 footer who runs like a deer, has great “ups,” can handle and hit the 15 footer.  Look for her to step up big at L-S this year as they try and defend their top ranking and state title from last winter…Winthrop’s Courtney Finn was a Herald All-Scholastic last year as a sophomore and is another who can do it all on the court.  This deadeye smooth southpaw can shoot it (19 PPG on 53% shooting) including nailing 3’s with ease, handle, defend, is vastly underrated on the glass (and she’s grown a few inches), and is so adept with her right hand that you’d think she’s ambidextrous…Rockland’s 6’ star Jackie Bohenek has proven she is one of the all-time best ever to play at this basketball tradition rich school.  She can score (over 18 PPG) and has already surpassed the 1,000 point barrier with another year to go.  Her Patriot League opponents will surely be glad to see her graduate next spring.

Fifth Team
Position Name High School Class College Choice
Guard Sarah Wetmore Lincoln Sudbury Senior Undecided
Guard Amanda McCarthy Pope John Senior Undecided
Forward Rebecca Goreham North Quincy Senior Undecided
Forward Amber Smith Ipswich Junior Only a Junior
Forward Reilly Poirier Cardinal Spellman Junior Only a Junior

This kid is as cerebral a point guard as you’ll see in the high school ranks.  At 5’9” Sarah Wetmore is also a real tough match-up for any team’s guards as she can hit the “3” with a super quick release and then beat you off the dribble.  She can penetrate and dish and passes to the post better than any guard around.  She’ll be a nice present for some college coach when she finally decides on a school for next year…Amanda McCarthy just loves the game and has moved on to Pope John High after Savio Prep closed last year.  The doors stayed open long enough for “A-Mac” to get her 1,000th point though. Kid can score hitting last year at 20 PPG and she’d play 24/7 if she could figure out how…North Quincy’s Becca Goreham to me has slipped under too many radar screens so it’s time to give her some well deserved props.  She can handle, score, rebound, and probably play all 5 positions.  Another player who will make a college coaches career very safe for the next 4 years…A Herald All-Scholastic last year as a soph Amber Smith continues to fill up a stat sheet.  She “only” averaged 21 PPG while pulling down about 14 boards each night…She buckles up that chin strap each and every night and is the consummate teammate her Spellman pals rely on.  Reilly Poirier does all the dirty work inside relying on the best low post moves around and has that unique ability to be clutch when the moments are the biggest.

Sixth Team
Position Name High School Class College Choice
Guard Jackie Vienneau Central Catholic Senior Undecided
Guard Stephanie Sauve Wilmington Senior Undecided
Forward Michelle DeRoma Mt. Alvernia Senior AIC
Forward Casey Capello Archbishop Williams Senior Undecided
Center Kirsten Daamen Pentucket  Junior Only a Junior

All she did as a junior was lead her Central Catholic club to the D1 state championship game.  Consummate point guard Jackie Vienneau has watched, learned and competed evenly night in and night out in the tough MVC with the likes of the Cosgroves and Riveras and now its time for her to get some recognition because she means sooo much to Sue Downer’s talented group…Wilmington’s Stephanie Sauvé is a 5’11” guard who can play either spot with ease as well as moving up front if needed.  She can slash to the hoop or knock down the “3.”  She will be forever remembered in her town for the buzzer- beating 15 footer to knock off highly ranked AC last year.  Mt. Alvernia is a D4 power but many times the small schools get overlooked.  College coaches obviously opened their eyes at 5’11” do-it-all star Michelle DeRoma as she has accepted a scholarship to D2 power AIC.  Just another kid with the whole package…the 3 point range, the size to play inside, the handle, and a high bball IQ…It was no coincidence that the “Archies” won the D3 state championship the year that this sharpshooter entered their locker room in Braintree.  Casey Capello is a quiet unassuming 5’10” senior who fit in like a glove there and look for them to make a strong bid to repeat this winter…Pentucket’s Kirsten Daamen is 6’2” and is the single most feared inside defensive force in the state.  The story goes that there is a life size cardboard cutout of 6’11” former Celtic great Kevin McHale in the Springfield Basketball Hall of Fame with his arms outstretched to show his amazing wingspan.  Daamen supposedly stood in front of it, stretched her arms out and was only a few inches short on each side…and she uses her length amazingly well blocking shots from all angles and rebounding with the best of them.  She’s got a nice turn-around “J” and will lead her strong club deep into the playoffs again this winter.
